Train this weekend with Sigung Bustillo

Sigung Richard Bustillo is coming to Charlotte Martial Arts to teach four fun martial arts classes. On Saturday, March 5, students can learn Jeet Kune Du (9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.) or Jiu Jitsu (1 – 3:30 p.m.). On Sunday, March 6, he’ll be leading Muay Thai (8:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.) and Kali/Escrima (12 – 2 p.m.).

One of Bruce Lee’s best-known students, Bustillo is one of a few surviving first-generation instructors in Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do. In an interview with Blitz Magazine Bustillo said, “JKD is a freedom of one’s expression in martial arts combat. It possesses everything, yet in itself is possessed by nothing. There are no rules or a set of classification of techniques that comprise of a clean-cut JKD form of fighting. Jeet Kune Do is just as you are, nothing more.”

The idea is for students to shape their own JKD way. “I only ask that my students go above and beyond the punching and kicking, grappling and weaponry by practicing respectfulness, civility, honor, integrity and [showing] self-esteem,” Bustillo said.

Get to Know Nicholas Krug

Fletcher School student Nicolas Krug is a fan of the attitude of leadership and respect he’s gained from martial arts. With world history his favorite subject in school, it’s no surprise that action and adventure stories are his favorite books to read. When he received his black belt he went over to a friend’s house where there was a surprise party. If they knew him well, they’d also have been playing his favorite type of music – Dubstep when he came in the door.
